Bowling Apparatus for Wheelchair Users - Makes Bowling Easy For All!
No matter what part of the country you claim as your home, we're all familiar with the popular past time of professional bowling. Bowling took rise in the 70's with Disco, and CB radio's and unlike it's disco dance partners has withstood the test of time... and is still a family favorite in millions of homes throughout the country.
Until recently it was uncommon to see wheelchair users with any degree of disability wheel a 16 pound ball down a wooden runway and hurl the gigantic sphere down the ally at head spinning speeds!
... Now it's not so uncommon.
Today you're just as likely to see a C1-2 quadriplegic or an individual with cerebral palsy... splitting pins with the best of them!
This Act is Made Possible By One Individuals Obsession with Staying Active
Bill Miller is a quadriplegic wheelchair user restricted to a ventilator since 1997. As an active athletic youth Bill enjoyed the competition of bowling. After falling in a bath tub accident in college, Bill fell privy to meeting an inventor and wheelchair advocate Claude Giguere.
Claude volunteered his services as an inventor and teamed with Bill to draft a prototype device that would allow any wheelchair user to strike out down any bowling aisle with the confidence of knowing their ball stands just as good or an even better chance of gliding down the alley and hitting its mark with the speed and grace displayed by any pro.
How is Bill Going To Achieve this Feet Without the Use of His Arms or Hands?
Claude and Bill created the first bowler to fit over the footrests, this would allow the user to push the ball in the desired direction. In Bills case he simply uses his mouth piece to control the direction and velocity of his powerchair which indirectly controls the ball.
The team discovered a flaw in their design that without correction... it seemed the bowler would never have a real shot at success. The original bowler was a push design that simply didn't yield enough ball velocity so the two inventors put their heads together and and came up with the now famous ramp design which allows the ball to build up additional momentum through the use of gravity as an accelerate.
This Modification Has Led to Scores in the High 200's and Every Score in Between.
Needless to say Bills drive and ambition led to the birth and growth of a successful company (Genuine Thrills, Inc.) providing the NEW ikanbowler to power wheel chair users around the world.
The ikanbowler is approved by the United States Bowling Congress for use against able bodied players in tournament play!
This device is unique in its ability to function from a stationary or rolling position. By providing users with functional diversity the abilities of each ikanbolwer can be as diverse as the users themselves. The user is able to control the ball through precise positioning and controlling the speed at which your ball is released.
The combination of:
- Timing,
- Required accuracy and
- Ball controll...
Create a healthy atmosphere of competition and accomplishment!
If anyone reading this piece is a regular wheelchair user and finds him or herself looking for something active to do.
Power wheel chair bowling is now an option!
