Price Continues to Be the Leading Reason Why 3 Wheel Models Out Sell Their 4 Wheel Counterparts...
- Their simply less costly!
We discuss the obvious differences between 4 wheel and 3 wheel scooters on the mobility scooters page of this site.
- Now we'll go further by showing you a few key components and some added features found on most 3 wheel models.
These special features and components... along side persicion handling... are @ minimum what you should expect from your 3 wheel scooter. .
B
elow is a List of Essentials' You Must know and Understand Before Choosing Your Scooter
- Base Unit - The base unit makes up the scooters body. These units are generally made up of fiberglass, steel, aluminum or composit frames.
You'll want to evaluate things such as base unit ground clearance, turning radius, and comfort before making your purchase.
- Drive Train - The drive train is what makes your scooter travel forward and backward. There are two types of drive trains... (1)Front Wheel... and (2)Rear Wheel.
Front wheel drive trains are used in lighter weight scooters and allow for greater maneuverability and added control in tight spaces. This makes front wheel drive trains perfect for 3 wheel travel scooters.
Rear wheel drive trains are most commonly found in heavier duty mobility scooters
due to their generally larger loads... Keep in mind just because a scooter is front wheel drive doesn't mean it cann't provide heavier users the torque needed for a smooth ride.
You'll need to note drive train strength before making any buying decision.
- Brakes - We all know the importants of brakes, although you may not know how brakes work on mobility scooters.
3 and 4 wheel scooters alike, apply breaking pressure, only when the thumb throttle is released. This is to say... when you're giving the scooter juice(power) - the brakes release and allow the scooter to move forward or backward. When you let go of the throttle the breaks automatically engage... This is called (Regenerative Br
aking).
- Batteries and Chargers - These batteries aren't like your car or truck battery which is designed to be a starter battery... giving off short bursts' of amps to start your vehicle. Scooter batteries must provide enough juice to power you around for hours, even days before needing a re-charge. They do this with the use of two 12 or 24 volt batteries. These high powered batteries are capable of powering your scooters electrical system and drive train for as many as 25 miles before needing a full battery charge.
- Speaking of Re-Charging, you should expect to receive a battery charger with any scooter you purchase. If you don't, you may not be getting the best deal! Our (featured merchant) SpinLife.com offers either an on board or off board charger with any scooter you purchase. This is one accessory you won't want to leave home w
ithout.
- Tires and Wheels - Tires and wheels come in a variety of sizes. Larger tires are found on larger scooters and provide additional stability.
- Smaller wheels and tiers are found on 3 wheel indoor scooters and 3 wheel travel scooters to provide easy maneuverability.
These tires come in three distinctly different forms... Pneumatic, Foam and Solid. Solid tiers are most commonly found on 3 wheel travel scooters or most indoor models, as they are the least expensive and most durable.
- Seating - No need to stress the importance of a comfortable seat. 3 wheel travel scooters come with form fitting detachable seats that allow the scooter to be truly portable and compact. Most disability scooters come with a captains style seat with armrests and high or low backs. These little amenities add to the 3 wheel travel scooters comfort and
stability.
- Tiller - This may be a strange word to some of you -- although it shouldn't be. The tiller refers to the steering mechanism. Most scooters are equipped with a handle bar like steering device which houses your - thumb throttle, battery gage, light switches, Key slot, and any additional features attached to the dash board. Tillers come in a variety of styles, including an accordion style which is flexible and allows the passenger the ability to easily adjust the tiller for comfort and usability.
- Other Features and Accessories - You'll be glad to know there's more than likely an attachment or accessory perfect for you........although you may not know it yet....... it's out there! With everything from cane holders to oxygen tank carriers we're sure there's an add on for you. One feature you should look for in your 3 wheel travel scooter is portability. This one feature can be the deciding factor in your saying...yes to the purchase of
an affordable, light weight, transportable, 3 wheel travel scooter.
- Travel Scooters Should Brake Down Into 5 or Less Pieces as Pictured - Just think of the places you could go with your portable travel scooter in the trunk and your friends and family beside you - sharing this New freedom and independence!
